Object Description: Popularly known as the Pelican Nebula, this large mass of star clusters, gas nebulae, and ionization fronts lies just to the west of the North American Nebula NGC7000 and is part of the same huge emission gas cloud bisected by a large dark nebula. Telescope:

Taken: two nights 22AUG2008 and
23AUG2008 Image Processing: ImagesPlus 3.5 used for data reduction, alignment, MinMaxExc combine, initial DDP. PSCS2 used for levels, curves, and color enhancement. Comments: There is a blue reflection nebula, to the southwest of the Pelican, that I have not been able to identify. I have emailed CBAT of the possibility of a new discovery. A cropped image of the nebula in question is below, only some noise reduction applied from original image above. |
